“Moment of Silence” by Bella Chartrand, 2014. watercolor 12 x 16 in.
“Quiet your mind and relax into the feeling of oneness becoming one yourself with horse and rider in this heart stopping moment in time.
Feel time slow down..deep down…as the air swirls around you as you soar through the air; feel the heartbeat of the horse grow louder and louder, stronger and stronger…
Listen closely and hear the breath of the horse grow stronger and louder still…pulsing with every heartbeat as time stands still.
Relax now…into your ‘moment of silence’…” ~ Love, Bella
About Photo “Moment of Silence” taken by Scott E. Hodlmair
Award Winning photo taken February 2015 at HITS (Horses in The Sun), Ocala, Florida
“The equestrian jumping events are a cornucopia for the senses. Sight, sound, smell… Perhaps my favorite is the sound of this event. If you stand near the rail and close your eyes, you can’t miss the loud rhythm of the “jumpers” as they pace themselves between jumps. It seems to me each horse/rider team has it’s own “beat.” This rhythm is punctuated at the jump. There is a moment of silence when horse and rider soar over the jump. This “moment of silence” is what I was trying to capture with this photo.
When the Levy County Fair approached, I was asked to enter a couple photos of local subjects. I chose a portrait taken in Williston at the Civil War Reenactment, and “Moment of Silence.” Both were works in black-and-white. I was delighted when they were selected 1st and 2nd.
In addition to ribbons, the Fair awards two trophies each year, one for Best of Show – Livestock, and one for Best of Show – Creative Arts. “Moment of Silence” won the trophy for Creative Arts. I’ve won many photography contests in Chicago and other urban settings, but my personal favorite, by far, is my county fair Blue Ribbon.” – Scott E. Hodlmair

What is a Giclée?
Giclée (zhee-clay) n. AKA: Archival Pigment Print. 1. A method of fine art and photographic printmaking. 2. Most often associated with reproductions, a giclée is a print or multiple copy of an original work of art that was created by conventional means (painting, drawing, etc.) and then reproduced digitally via inkjet printing methods. In the case of digitally created artwork or photographs printed in this manner, each print can be considered an original, since nothing was copied to create the image. What distinguishes a giclée from other inkjet prints is that it must be printed using state-of-the-art equipment, pigmented inks and onto museum-quality, archival fine art paper or canvas.
